Invitation to participate in Omagh Bombing Inquiry

Published:

The Chairman of the Omagh Bombing Inquiry has today issued an Open Letter inviting those who have been directly affected by the bombing to participate in the Inquiry by submitting a personal statement.

In January and February of 2025, the Inquiry is hosting four weeks of Commemorative and Personal Statement Hearings at the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh. These hearings will play a key role in the Inquiry. Their purpose is to commemorate those who were killed in the bombing and also to hear from people who were affected by the bombing.

Today The Chair has renewed the invitation to those from the wider community to complete a personal statement if they wish to. Not everyone who submits a personal statement will be asked to provide oral evidence at the Hearings in January and February, and there will be no obligation to give evidence if you would prefer not to.  The Chair will read every statement, and your experiences will help to inform the direction and approach of the Inquiry.

The Open Letter can be read in full here.

You can read more on how to contribute to the Commemorative and Personal Statement Hearing in the Commemorative Hearing Protocol available here and the personal statement template is available here. There are also more details on what the Commemorative and Personal Statement Hearing entails and the wider process in the accompanying explainer document
